Re: For All Jay Z Fans

I had the good fortune to attend a live taping of the Oprah Winfrey show several years ago and it was loaded with talented speakers like Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, Sistah Souljah, & Chuck D. The show focused on whether Oprah Winfrey was Black enough, since the overwhelming majority of her topics were, and still are, concerned with uplifting the White Supremacy paradigm. This was a show that never reached the airwaves and one of the reasons I feel that it never reached TV broadcast is rooted in the fact that the Black people in the audience hurled insult after insult at Oprah. Some of the insults coming from a few Black folks in the audience claimed that Oprah was struggling to be like her white guests that appeared on her shows. Oprah was not about to back down from the debate and in a moment of anger, after being repeatedly insulted, she stated “…if I had to depend on Black folks, I would be broke!” I was shocked that she would say such a thing in front of a predominantly Caucasian audience, but then I said to myself, “is she right about Black Folks?” Could we be so selfish and confused, as a people, that we don’t support people who look like us? This question weighed heavily on my mind and the more I thought about it, the more I thought that she was correct in her analysis, but wrong in the way she made the statement. The statement was based on a stereotype (which carries some truth), and the probability of Blacks people not supporting each other weighed heavily in her favor when it got down to the psychological damage Afrikan people still endure since coming out of chattel slavery.

The mental state of Black folks will shock you and I have done extensive research that reveals that not only are we not supportive of each other, but we are in danger of losing our lives and the lives of our children because of this character defect. Dr. Amos Wilson addresses this character defect in “Black-on-Black Violence, The Psychodynamics of Black Self-Annihilation in Service of White Domination.” In his book he states that some Black people devalue themselves because they have yet to gain control of their lives due to a white controlled power structure which dominates every facet of their lives. Due to this frustrating existence, Black folks have internalized a death wish and they carry around an enormous amount of self hatred since the world is constantly telling them that they are unlovable.

Of course this devaluation of themselves come from centuries of systematic dehumanization that was born out of chattel slavery. Plus, the slave religion, that has been forced on Afrikan people, keeps far too many of them with a feeling of unworthiness. Many preachers tell Afrikan people about their degraded condition as if the Creator intended it that way every Sunday while filling them with a fantasyland belief to ease their troubled mind. With these fantasyland rejuvenation of the minds of parishioners by using wishful thinking on a weekly basis, many Afrikan people are somehow able to endure more hardships while doing nothing to correct their despicable existence. They feel that something outside of them will correct this mess.

The low self-esteem of far too many Afrikan people is even evident in one radio talk show host named Michael Baisden, who reaffirmed his feeling of unworthiness by advocating a birth control poisons for children in middle school. Who could wish such a thing on his own people if he really cared for them? Does he know the damage the pill does to the female body? I would say apparently not.

With all of these factors in mind, it is my opinion that many Afrikan people still have a lot of unresolved issues that need to be attended to before we learn to unite and support each other in our struggle for freedom. No, Oprah is not alone and she is in good company when it comes to being inculcated with eurocentric values that are destroying us, as a people.

Another clear example of Afrikan self-hatred is the amnesia surrounding the Black Katrina victims (who were referred to as refugees). Many of them haven’t gotten their lives together today and I’ve heard reports of suicides and suicidal behavior among some of the hurricane survivors. This is sad and it sends a clear message to me that this nation is in a rapid decline and nothing can save it. Knowing all of this, I keep wondering can we save ourselves? Is the answer no; like Oprah insinuated in her comment?

Re: For All Jay Z Fans

WE REMEMBER June of 1944
George Stinney Jr. was the youngest person to be sentenced to death in the 20th century in the United States.
He was only 14 years old when he was executed in an electric chair.
During his trial, even on the day of his execution, he always carried a bible in his hands, claiming to be innocent.
He was accused of killing two white girls, 11-Year-old Betty, and Mary of 7, the bodies were found near the house where the teenager resided with his parents.
At that time, all members of the jury were white. The trial lasted only 2 hours, and the sentence was dictated 10 minutes later.
The Boy's parents were threatened, and prevented from being present in the courtroom, and subsequently expelled from that city.
Before the execution, George spent 81 days in prison without being able to see his parents.
He was held in solitary confinement, 80 miles from his city. He was alone without the presence of his parents or a lawyer.
He was electrocuted with 5,380 volts in his head.
70 years later, his INNOCENCE was finally proven by a judge in South Carolina. George was innocent, later to find out Police Officers had set him up looking to blame someone for the murders.
May his innocent soul rest in peace.
